Shaking up Shakespeare

_Photo=8550>The young performers of The Musical Theater Center will bring the 1950s back to life in their production of the Broadway musical ‘‘All Shook Up” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s ‘‘Twelfth Night,” with a bit of ‘‘Romeo and Juliet,” the show tells the story of a young female mechanic who falls in love with a guitar playing rebel. Its score features classic Elvis Presley tunes. Tickets are $17.50, $15.50 for children, students and seniors. Seniors, 60 and older, an $8.50 ticket is available for the 2 p.m. Saturday show. There’s no time to lose: Almost all dates for the Montgomery College Dinner Theatre production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘‘Evita” are sold out. The Broadway musical about Eva Peron, the charismatic wife of Argentina’s dictator, is on the Theatre Arts Arena stage of the college’s Rockville campus, 51 Mannakee St. The buffet opens Saturday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m. with an 8:15 p.m. show; and Sunday, July 6, at 12:30 p.m., with a 2:15 p.m. curtain. Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., have been designated the 11th annual Montgomery Heritage Days, with 41 sites open in every area of the county. Among the highlights on Saturday is the first public tour of Potomac’s Blockhouse Point Conservation Park, where visitors can take a guided two-mile hike, then see the remains of a Civil War outpost camp and blockhouse that guarded the Potomac River. Sunday will feature the second opening of ‘‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” the 19th century Bethesda home to slave Josiah Henson, whose story inspired the novel. The double bill of female singer-songwriters begins at 8 p.m. Saturday in Rockville; doors open at 7:30 p.m. Lewis, a poet who teaches songwriting, is a National Park Service artist-in-residence. Cooper is also Tom Prasada-Rao’s wife and partner in The Dreamsicles performing duo. The minimum suggested contribution is $15, all going directly to the performers. ‘‘Glen Echo Park: Then & Wow,” the fourth annual family festival celebrating the park’s revitalization and recalling its history, is set for Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd. The event, also part of Montgomery Heritage Days, will feature children’s theater, environmental education programs, dancing, art exhibits, Dentzel carousel rides, park tours, a display of vintage cars as well as rides that recall the Glen Echo’s days as an amusement park — bumper cars, a spin ride, and a trackless train.
