Pedestrian struck by car and killed in Burtonsville

A 25-year-old New York man was hit and killed by a vehicle while walking along Spencerville Road in Burtonsville late Sunday night, according to Montgomery County Police.

Juan Camilo Martinez from Regal Park, N.Y., was in town visiting a friend, according to a police news release. He was walking westbound in the 3000 block of Spencerville Road near Kruhm Road when a gray 2003 Toyota 4Runner struck him. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Edward Allan Cornett, 47, of the 15000 block of Cliff Swallow Way in Rockville, remained on the scene. He was not charged, police said. The incident is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already spoken with detectives is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
