The Surrattsville High School football team ended its season with a victory Saturday, a 26-21 effort against Crossland, as Joseph Rollins Jr. carried 22 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns and Aurelius Kitchens added 68 yards on 14 carries.
Andre Williams also scored two touchdowns for the Hornets.
The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, each scoring 14 points in the period. Crossland had the ball at midfield and threw a pass up for grabs on the last play of the game that could have given the Cavaliers the winning points.
"It went down to the very end, it was gut-wrenching," said Surrattsville coach Robert Harris, who guided his team to a 3-7 mark in his first season, 2-6 in the County 3A/2A/1A League. "It was exciting to get this win in this last game. I'm happy for the kids that we ended on a good note. We've got a lot to build on."
William Wright Jr. had four tackles and an interception to lead the Surrattsville defense. Milton McLean and Andre Williams also had interceptions. Leo Storre had two catches for 55 yards.
The Cavaliers (2-8, 1-7) closed the season on a five-game losing streak.
